Cooking classes taught by Chef Instructor Jaret Foster at CrossFit Portland are as fun as they are informative. Classes, though not strictly paleo, are all designed with good nutrition as a guiding principle.
In a relaxed and comfortable setting students are guided through each class with care for the individual. Class sizes are limited, giving much opportunity for one-on-one interaction with the instructor. Topics range from cooking basics such as knife skills, food selection and safe handling, to soups and sauces, egg cookery, butchery and classic techniques.
All classes are taught with an eye to keeping it in the home kitchen on limited time and budgets. Although classes will include take-home recipes, the approach will be more technique-focused rather than recipe-driven, in order to build students’ kitchen confidence and know-how.
Classes will run about two hours, are a blend of demonstration and hands on, and include a light snack.
Chef Jaret Foster honed his skills cooking in kitchens on both coasts for over ten years, all the while researching nutrition and working on small farms. He now serves as the Operations Director for Portland Farmers Market, where his love of food from farm to table and direct access to the region’s best growers and ranchers coupled with his interest in a healthy lifestyle make the perfect match for teaching cooking classes at CrossFit Portland.
