Next up in the Who’s Who we have Phil. Since starting Crossfit I have seen Phil literally transform himself. I remember when he first started, barely being able to squat and hang from the pull up bar. Now he is doing workouts as prescribed, ripping out kipping pull ups one after the other, and is much stronger overall. I hope to be in his kind of shape when i am Phil’s age. Keep up the great work!

How were you introduced to Crossfit? Tim Ufkes, one of my business partners from Seattle got me going…after seeing the remarkable change he went through……over- weight to cage fighter.
Favorite WOD/lift: Murph maybe because I have never done it.
I have always wanted to: Be in shape and I think I am about a year away from where I really want to be, RX. I just turned 59 today and have been doing Crossfit for about a year. When I started I could barely hang on the pull up bar and last month I did my first no feet rope climb. Not too bad for an old guy. Crossfit has given me a new lease on life and I intend to continue it into my twilight years.
1 word people use to describe me: I used to be thought of as adventuresome and playful but now maybe just playful.
Outside of the gym I like to: Study history, philosophy and the bible
Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me: I am a master knife thrower (in training)
Favorite physical activity outside of Crossfit: Snowboarding and golf
Favorite place to eat in Portland: Park Kitchen: Great food, Great people and only a block from where I live.
Song that gets me pumped up for a workout: We never get to my songs: Doors, Lead Zeppelin…..I am a bit older than the group.
Proudest accomplishment:Da Fam: Debby, Sarah, Claire, Joe (son-in-law) and little Jack who will arrive in a few months.

We dead lifted heavy last night in On Ramp and tomorrow they all finish with their final Baseline. Now, the last On Ramp was incredibly strong with people pulling some serious weight. This On Ramp also showed their strength. Two guys pulled over 2x BW for the first time last night! Nice work everyone.

Phil, fantastic! The “Doors” station just got setup on Pandora.
Knife thrower!?!? Wow, Phil!
Phil the Thrill!
Phil that is awesome! So is there competitions for the knife throwing, if so I would like to come watch sometime…that sounds so cool! Also, say hi to Claire from all of us…we miss her!
just did today’s WOD.
7:10.2 on the 2k Row (PR)
64 double unders. Ouch.
If I were to do this again, I go for a PR on the row still. But, I would take 30 seconds to catch my breath and get in a rhythm with the doubles. Definitely fun to try a double under right off the rower though
You’re the man Phil!! Happy belated birthday and thanks for proving to the rest of us that age is a number, not an excuse!
Good WOD XX, way to not pace the row and set a PR!
Oh, I paced it Adam
Awesome Phil! Great job on the no feet rope climb.
today’s WOD
2k row 7:53
1st time to do that row and my goal was under 8min.
13 DU’s
good for me as I’m horrible at these.
Hey Phil, glad to see you are still going strong with CF. I used you as an example to my mom and dad to get them coming to CF. They love it now! What an inspiration you are! PS – I’m a huge Zeppelin fan too
Awesome Phil!! You’re inspiring, but you’re looking good from your age of 59. You’re still strong like Christine W. and me.
It is pretty cool how quickly friendships form when we suffer together. Great fun at Portland CF!
You’re amazing, Phil. I’m inspired! Thank you!
Phil! You’re an animal my brotha!
Today’s WOD:
2K Row – 7:38 (PR)
23 double unders
I completely spent myself on the row and left very little for the DU’s. On top of that my DU’s are terrible. I am proud of the 2K row time, though.
Phil – you are so fun to be around. I love your smile – it’s contagious.
It’s amazing to see what our bodies can do when we put them – and our minds – to it! (Knife throwing is another example here that I have never, ever considered!) Happy Birthday!
On another note, I had not yet rowed 2000m yet, so today was my first time! After the girls day session on rowing, I feel my technique was far better than it used to be – I was excited to get 9:02. Thanks, Erin!
Wasn’t able to make the wod today, but breaking this is my goal for next time

Right on Phil- it’s time to get the led out.
I too need to thank Erin for the girls day rowing lesson. My November time was 9:22. Today’s time was 8:52. 30 whole seconds off my time!
Bill, that is a hot time! You’ll break the Level 2 time of 7:30 for sure on the next go round.
7:39, 63 double unders. XX, did you check Jake’s rope?
Good call on The Doors and Zeppelin, Phil!
