Next for the Who’s Who we have Brian!

How were you introduced to Crossfit?  My best friend, who lives in Texas, goes to Crossfit Richardson.  He called one day and told me that I need to try Crossfit because I will love it.  He was right!

Favorite WOD/lift:  Any type of team WOD/workout or something with rowing in it.  Any heavy lifting that involves 5 reps or less :)

I have always wanted to: swim with a Great White or Tiger Shark

1 word people use to describe me: Random

Outside of the gym I like to watch the discovery channel, paddle outrigger canoes and dragon boat.

Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me:  My wife and I are expecting our first child (baby girl) in September.  I love the ocean/water and am super fascinated with sharks.

Favorite physical activity outside of Crossfit: Paddling (Outrigger Canoes and Dragon boats)

Favorite place to eat in Portland: Kauai Island Grill

Song that gets me pumped up for a workout:  Metallica, Godsmack, AC/DC, or even Rap… I like it all.

Proudest accomplishment:  I have a feeling that this event has yet to be experienced.  Check back in about a year :)

First, I met you at CFPDX when Rochelle introduced me to you during the class. You’re inspire & amazing!! I just joined the dragon boat this week. Also, I’m doing to paddle Hawaiian double hull canoe. I love to work out with you sometime.

BRIAN! You are one of my favorite people to work out with! You make me laugh during workouts that otherwise would have made me cry.
Oh yeah, you could easily lift a small car. :)

Brian, you were the first guy that I worked out with when I started back in August, Mostly because we were the same height :) You have a humble approach to life and competition that is impressive to me, and Roch is right, that quality will shine when you soon become a father. You have challenged me to be better than I was the day before, and have done that since we started partnering up back in August.

and stop over training, get some sleep hoss ;)

    Hey Brian,
You always push me to do more (and you too Eric) don’t know why a little guy like me is lifting with you but it’s awesome. And congrats on the baby! That first year is like the longest and best metcon ever.

  18. Mindy Montgomery 28 April 10 at 3:21 pm #

Brian is the first person I “met” at CrossFit Portland. After exchanging the “I think I know you” look, we figured out we worked together while attending Oregon State about 15 years ago!

    Congrats on the baby!

I spit out my water a little when I read this.

    Press – 115/135/150×4

    press 80/90/100×6
    bench 135/155/175×7

had to play catch up my 3/3/amrap bench due to being home in TN for 5 days.

Okay, today wiped me out. Sat down at the end of the met con, ,and couldn’t stand up for a good five minutes. XX had me move for the cool down, and I just log rolled to the new spot.

    Anyway
    Press 90/105/115×2
Metcon total time was 19:51, rx’d

XX pointed out that there is a max chart in the back of the daily log, and based on the amrap set that i did last week during the presses, my 1rm is approximately 125lbs. Which made me look up some of the formulas used to determine 1rms, and the closest that i found to the chart is the Bryzcki formula, with is a nice complex formula where 1RM=Wx36/(37-R). Which means that in order to have an accurate 80% (today I was guesstimating a 1RM of 150) I would have needed to keep tempo and form for at least 8 reps. Is this right? So, does this mean if you aren’t getting 8 or more during the amrap set, you’re using too much weight? And if you are doing more than 8 in form and tempo, then is your max higher than you think? On Monday when we did squats, I was guesstimating my 1RM as 300lbs, but since I was able to get 10 reps before stopping, does that then means I undershot my 1rm by 20lbs?

    So confused.
