We are dedicating the Hawthorne Hustle 2010 to the Franny Fund! Franny has cerebral palsy and is the 10 year old daughter of Cole and Leah Cabler at CrossFit Portland. Franny’s full story, the Franny Fund, and her family’s plan to get her the treatment she needs is here. Their goal is to raise $60,000 for adult stem cell treatment in Germany at the Xcell Center.
I first met Franny when Leah and Cole were going through On Ramp and they brought their daughters Hazel and Franny to the gym. The smile on Franny’s face simply radiated energy and potential that could not be contained by her wheelchair. After the class was over, Franny asked me if she could CrossFit someday? Holding back my tears, I told her “Yes, of course.” I realized I was promising myself just as much to her that she will CrossFit someday.
We say and tell our friends about CrossFit as being a community. Well, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate meaning and application of that word then pulling together and helping Franny get the treatment she needs. I want to thank Leah and Cole for giving us this opportunity to impact Franny’s quality of life. How often are we really given this chance and will you seize it?
Cole is designing a t-shirt for the Hawthorne Hustle and proceeds will go towards the Franny Fund. They are also setting up an online donation PayPal account on the Franny Fund website. Here is how you can take direct action and help. I’m a newbie to fundraising so if you have other ideas and courses of action we should take, please share!
Thank you!

Franny taught my twins some new swear-words at the CrossFit 5-Year Anniversary Potluck so I guess I really, REALLY need to find a male partner to do the Hustle with…
If you need a partner, put your name on the board in the gym. I started a list up there…
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for doing this for my beautiful niece! I am Cole’s sister. I live in Mississippi and am so thankful for the support they get from you guys at Crossfit Portland!!
Err, sorry Cory. Wish I could say that the trip to Germany would fix that about Franny, but, umm probably not.
But, thank you for those words XX. And thank you CFPDX for being awesome and helping out and I think we can make this a really great event for this year and for other charities or families in years to come.
I have yet to meet Franny but I’m happy to be able to help out another CF family.

Since Franny already does this, I suggest the new “FRANNY” WOD is to smile and be so guenuinely awesome for 24/7, 365, too infinity.
Looking forward to WOD’n for a greater purpose than myself for once. Leah and Cole, thank you for sharing Franny with us all at the gym and your own hard work and sweat, too.
If I wasn’t already committed to a fishing trip on Saturday, I’d hustle with the rest of you. I’ll just have to make up for it and bring some fish in.

Ditto what Nick G. said, what a great idea!
What a great cause for a beautiful, happy little girl!! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of all of this!!
Hello, I support all of you for Franny. Please, beat the cerebral palsy soon. Soon, she’ll be going to get more strong when all of you will be going to travel to Germany to help her.
I know who to contact. I’m on it!
Cole, Leah – You two have grown to be some great friends to me over the last year. I know how hard times have been, and the stress of worrying about your little girl has put on you two for a long time. You are special people. I am lucky to call you friends, and am lucky to have gotten to know franny as I have gotten to know you. Im sorry that I wont be able to make it to the hustle since I will be in the middle of OK somewhere babysitting 17-18 y/o’s, but I will donate everything I can spare to help your amazing little girl. Your family is strong and your individual fortitude is equally as powerful. You should both be proud. Love you guys.
I am all signed up! What a great idea. I am looking forward to helping Franny. Hopefully I can meet her too, she is such a cute. I love the twinkle in her eye.
I haven’t got to meet Franny yet either, but I’m sure she’s as awesome as the rest of the Cabler family. Excited to support you guys!
I cannot think of a better cause! Thanks, XX, for making this happen!
Go, Franny!
