Essentials (parking, bathroom, water, ice, tape, warm up equipment)

Main event site is NOT where it was last year. We moved north a bit and it is located here now.

There is plenty of parking at the site. There is a U-Park that charges $1/hour or $4.50 for the day. Also, there is free parking on SE Madison, SE Main, and SE Salmon that run right up to the U-Park by the event site.

Found a porta john service that wasn’t highway robbery! Good o’l Mike’s Porta-Potties, thank you.

There will be a cooler for ice & bags in case of any injuries. Tape and the grip chalk bucket will be there but feel free to bring your own. There are water fountains at the site and we’ll have bottled water available as well. There will be some extra equipment there for warming up.

Event 1 – 7 minutes, find your 3RM with the Clean & Jerk

As a team, you have 7 minutes for each person to establish a 3 rep max. Once you have a 3 rep max established, that is the lowest score you can receive for the event. You may try to bump that higher with as many 3RM attempts as time will allow. As a team, there is one bar and set of weights. Your team changes all weights.

When a person goes for a 3 rep max, all three lifts must occur within 40 seconds. Judge will start timer once first lift leaves the ground, and you must be locked out overhead on your third lift before the 40 seconds is up. If you miss a lift, you must start over your 3 rep max attempt.

USAW rules do not apply. The bar must be clearly stable when it is overhead, you must be stationary and standing, before the lift counts. A signal will be given and then you can drop the bar from overhead. You must wait for the signal!

If the bar leaves your shoulders and does not end up locked out over head, it is a failed lift.

You do not have to hold on to the bar for the 40 seconds.

Event 2 – Revealed at the Hustle.

Event 3 – Run and Carry

Simple and scenic. You and your teammate will be going on a fun loop along the waterfront. Your team will start & finish at the event area. A teammate must be carried along the route except at two places. Study the map below and ask any questions you may have about the route!

Suggest method of carrying is the fireman’s carry. This looks about right.

From the start, one must carry a teammate in order to advance on the route. You may switch as many times as you like, no penalty for dropping a teammate. Go north, carry up the spiral ramp to the Morrison bridge sidewalk. Once on the south sidewalk of the Morrison bridge, DO NOT CARRY EACH OTHER, but run west across the bridge and follow the sidewalk down to the intersection of Naito and Morrison.

After you cross Naito into the waterfront park, resume carrying (except at stairs up to the Hawthorne Bridge).

Carrying teammate, get to the sidewalk along the waterfront and proceed south to the stairs up to the North sidewalk of the Hawthorne Bridge. You do not have carry each other up the stairs. Once on the bridge, you must carry again to cross the bridge and all the way to the finish. Get off the bridge at the East end, back onto the esplanade and carry to the finish line.

For the entire run, you should be on concrete path. Click on the picture below and it will take you to a google map of the run, click on the colored pins and points to see the instructions.

Heats

There will be 5 heats for every event. Although some of you will be in the later heats, you still need to check in with everyone else between 8:15-8:45 AM. For event 3, the run and carry, later heats will be starting before the preceding heat has finished.

Wikus Van De Merwe: [Points out Alien graffiti] This is basically a guy, and there’s 3 humans here, basically trying to make a warning, you know, saying “I kill 3 humans, watch out for me.”
